"Photographer Alec Watson" is the same Alec Watson as the Canadian record Producer/Engineer sporting the same name. Leaving behind a music career that earned him a Platinum record, 4 Gold records, 4 Top Tens for writing, a #1 selling record, and national nominations as Producer and Engineer of the year, Alec made the move to full-time commercial photography in 2006.
"There are a surprising number of similarities between the arts of music and photography; especially from the perspective of production. Both require technical knowledge on how to capture an analog medium through a digital device and both require a great deal of creativity and control. The biggest difference is - I ALWAYS wanted to be a photographer. It really suits my personality and skill set far better than music. I still play music, but I work hard at photography and photoshop everyday- AND LOVE IT!" I try to take time out from commercial photography by . . . taking pictures LOL! I have a fantastic list of commercial clients that need world class images. My specialty is maximizing product photography and working with models. These days, Alec and I live on Vancouver Island and have an awe-inspiring view of the Georgia Strait; just a 12-minute flight to downtown Vancouver - I commute by seaplane regularly. I am proud to shoot with both Hasselblad H3D and Nikon; my clients want the best quality that can be delivered - period. I work hard to grow as an artist through working with industry luminaries; every year I take several weeks to go and work with photographic artists I admire. The opportunities and artistic growth I have developed by working with Jay Maisel, Greg Gorman, Mark Robert Halper and Mark Daughn has been fantastic - a big thank you to all of them for making time to share the wealth.
